The Canadian Union of Postal Workers is alleging that Bill C-6, An Act to provide for the resumption and continuation of postal services impeded postal workers employed by Canada Post, and represented by the Canadian Union of Postal Workers from exercising our fundamental right to freedom of association by making it more difficult for workers to join unions, engage in free collective bargaining and exercise our right to strike. CUPW is alleging that by interrupting collective bargaining between the parties, referring the dispute over to compulsory and binding final offer selection arbitration, violating the union's right to strike, and setting a dangerous precedent of premature government intervention in a labour dispute, where the parties had arrived at essential service protocols, the Federal Government has violated the terms of Convention 87, the International Labour Organization (ILO) Freedom of Association and Protection of the Right to Organise Convention, 1948.
