UNI’s Croatian affiliate the Croatian Trade Union of Communications (HST) reported that Hrvatski Telekom, which is majority owned by Deutsche Telekom, will reduce its workforce by 370 employees.



Hrvatski Telekom initially said it would cut 450 jobs but the union managed to reduce the total number after several months of struggle. HST called a strike in January to protest the company’s lay-off plans and its refusal to engage in constructive social dialogue with the union.



The union is fighting the company’s decision to put profit over people. The layoffs come after Hrvatski Telekom recorded a net profit of HRK 1.8 billion (EUR 240 million) last year.



HST says it will take the company to court over management's failure to respect labor laws and its obligations under the collective agreement to cooperate with the works council on the layoffs.
