Bogota. The 9th Regional Youth Committee Meeting concluded on April 2nd with a key objective: to create young workers’ networks in Argentina, Brazil, Nicaragua, El Salvador and Panama. This meeting was attended by more than 25 youth representatives from the organisations affiliated in the region and it was presided over by Toni Moore from the Barbados Workers Union BWU. Among the key conclusions, the following can be mentioned: The renewal of the Committee in Mexico 2012, with the proposal to make reforms to the Young Workers’ Group Standing Orders. In order to achieve this objective: Continue with the creation of networks (see work plan) Continue organising and training young workers inside unions Improve communication with young workers groups from other regions Mexico Conference 2012 1. Subjects: -Decent and sustainable work for young workers. -Climatic change -Campaigns and organisation for young workers 2. To continue the development of the Action Plan and strategic priorities of the Young Workers’ Group. 3. To create the Mexico Conference 2012 Coordination Committee Area I. Evaluation of the Programme “Organising more young workers” a. Presentation by Edwin Villamil from the National Union School, Colombia. “Organising Strategy” - To promote processes of collective bargaining, aimed at the points specifically related to young workers. - To establish training processes to allow young workers to get a deeper knowledge of union organisation. - Sensitise union leaders in order to encourage them to include young workers in union activities.
