Last week, the European Commission has launched a public consultation on plans to extend the state aid rules in film until 31 December 2012. The regulation provides for an exemption from the prohibition of stat aid and allows for national public funding schemes to support film production. The Commission proposes to extend the current scheme, which it just prolonged in June until the end of 2009, for three years and invites interested parties to submit their comments by 30 November 2008.



UNI-MEI welcomes the Commission proposal and believes that the current scheme should not be put into question but rather reinforced.
