The National Police of Colombia visited the Colombian Head Office of Prosegur on Tuesday afternoon, to execute an arrest order against the company’s legal representative in the country. Alejandro Agudelo. When local authorities arrived at the company’s offices Agudelo was not on the premises. The Colombian Police continue to look for Agudelo who is to serve three days in detention.

The arrest order against Agudelo was for not complying with a judicial order from the 15th of September 2014, which obliges the company to rehire a fired worker. The appeals process in the case had been exhausted, however Prosegur continues to refuse to implement the judicial order.

The Prosegur employee was fired after joining the Sintravalores union. Prosegur had 48 hours to rehire the worker and back pay her salary and social security contributions.

“Prosegur is not above the law and has to comply with judicial orders. The company has to rehire the fired worker”, said Adriana Rosenzvaig, Regional Secretary of UNI Americas.

The judge who issued the arrest order, also referred Agudelo’s case to the Office of the Attorney General of Colombia to investigate whether procedural fraud has been committed.
