Bogota. An important meeting between representatives of the Dutch funding organisation and the Global Union Federations, aimed at knowing the impact of the projects and the current situation of the local union development, took place in Bogotá between October 30th and November 3rd, 2010. Peter Gortzak, General Secretary of the FNV Mondiaal from Holland, Robert Petri Director of the Dutch Ministry of International Cooperation; Tjalling Postma, FNV Mondiaal Advisor, and the Ecuadorian consultant Patricio Sambonino, participated in the event. Apart from them, the ICEM, PSI, IUF, UNI, UITBB, ITF, the National Union School of Union Studies’ Educational Centre and the CUT also attended the meeting. A meeting was also celebrated with the Coordinating Executive Committee of the “Programa País” (Country Program), whose objective was to study the integration of GUFs to the Programme and the results these federations expect to achieve at the end of the projects, in the next two years. Leonor Sierra Acosta, Coordinator of UNI Americas Support Centre in Colombia, declared that the key interest for UNI Americas as regards FNV Projects, was to reinforce through them the initiatives established in the project “Breaking Through”, that is to say: 1. Reinforcement and development in union organisations, in particular in multinational companies where we have presence. 2. To reinforce and spread the global framework agreements as a support tool for the exercise of union freedom, among the participant members and the labour movement in general. 3. To strengthen the participation of our affiliates at the national and international union and labour denouncement scenes: Attorney General’s Office, Ombudsman Office, Public Prosecutor’s Office, Presidency, ILO, Head Offices, Global Compact, OECD, etc. 4. To promote union training and education for the new members of recently created union organisations. 5. To promote gender-focused actions and activities to guarantee equality and non-discrimination inside the “Programa País” (Country Programme). 6. To promote Human Rights in the framework of the respect towards our affiliates’ right to life, association, negotiation and strike, a project in which FNV and UNI have been achieving good results in the unit of action. 7. To promote the creation of new unions. The participation and contribution of UNI Americas were well received. A new meeting with the consultant Patricio Sambonino will be held on November 22nd with the aim of revising and evaluating the situation of the projects of UNI Americas with the FNV in Colombia.
