Further to our announcement of the establishment of the new Chilean Federation of Security & Services Workers in mid March 2008, we report that the Federation has formally declared its formation, with 2,000 workers and 9 member trade unions. The workers are employed by the multinational secure transport provider Brinks, Segel, the local subsidiary of G4S, Gamaservicios, Protec Chile, Megaservicios, Inter-Con Security, Systems Chile, and Inter Services.



Chilean security workers are calling for enforcement of their entitlements to time off, fair working hours and overtime compensation. Legal provisions guaranteeing 1 day off per week and 2 Sundays off per month are not respected. Workers are often required to work longer than the 12 hour maxmium shift and are not properly paid for overtime. In addition, workers are denied basic health and safety amenities in the workplace and are required to pay for their own training courses.
