Argentina Youth Network has sent a report which establishes the issue of child labor as a priority in the trade union agenda. The report makes reference to the elimination of child labor as one of the relevant issues for international trade union movement.



The report provides numbers indicating a reduction of the problem in Latin America and the Caribbean. However, despite the progress much remains to be done. That is why from the point of view of trade union development cooperation, the effective abolition of child labor is one of the most urgent challenges of our time.



The actions developed by ISCOD are aimed to strengthening the capacities of workers' organizations, associations and civil society organizations in defending the right to education and decent work, through self-organization of society, communities, collective bargaining agreements and collective action in the informal sector.



ISCOD and UGT come together toward the goal of eliminating the worst forms of child labour by 2016 and to continue working to raise social awareness, families, entrepreneurs, professionals and local authorities to make possible a social change that put as a priority the protection of the rights of children. It is necessary to demand the establishment of social measures of access to employment, decent housing, health, social services, to a minimum wage and universal education, and to prioritize its upholding up to the age of 18, in order to preventing the premature abandonment.
