Today UNI affiliates from countries where Walmart operates are coming together in Los Angeles to launch the UNI Walmart Global Union Alliance. The Alliance will build a strong network among its members to fight for fairness, decent working conditions and a union voice for all Walmart Workers.
In a video statement UNI Global Union's General Secretary Philip Jennings said, "Its essential that Walmart is challenged. Walmart is the largest retailer in the world and as such sets the global benchmark for labour relations around the world. It's appalling track record in labour relations must be therefore be challenged in its home country, the United States and not be allowed to be exported to other countries such as South Africa and India. We have a responsibility to ensure Walmart changes its behaviour."
