On May 6, the UNI Caribbean Regional meeting was held in Port Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, with the participation of a wide number of unions mostly from the Telecomunication and Finance sector of UNI Americas.

Cable and Wireless (C&W) unions from around the Caribbean took the opportunity to discuss common issues and develop joint strategies and actions.

C&W workers expressed their concerns about job security and labor standards at the company due to constant cutbacks and corporate changes. This uncertainty has been heightened by the recent purchase of Cable and Wireless by Liberty Global and ongoing issues related to the acquisition of Columbus Communications.

Cable and Wireless unions committed to work together to collectively stand up for workers at Cable and Wireless throughout the region and developed plans for future actions.

Unions from Trinidad, Panama, Jamaica, Bahamas, Barbados, Grenada, Antigua, St. Lucia and Bermuda participated in this important meeting and agreed to work together to strengthen their coordination.
