Dear Colleagues,
As you know, we are only a few weeks away from the major Euro-demonstration to be held in Budapest, Hungary, and we hope that all the ETUC member organisations will be able to be represented so as to support the ETUC’s offensive against the austerity measures in Europe. If it is to be a complete success, the ETUC once again extends an invitation and hopes to see the countries neighbouring Hungary making a particular effort to come to Budapest in large numbers in support of the objective of getting 50,000 demonstrators on to the streets of Budapest.
201l is proving to be a difficult year in terms of the economic and social crisis, and the trade unions need more than ever to join forces and show solidarity in the struggle against these austerity measures which are unacceptable to workers in Europe. Working together will give us more strength to defend our Social Europe:
Which is why we need to get thousands of people on to the streets of Budapest on 9 April.
Let me take this opportunity to give you the following practical information:
As you know, our friends and colleagues in the six Hungarian trade union confederations are doing their utmost in collaboration with the ETUC to give us the best possible welcome in Budapest, and we also hope that this Euro-demonstration by the ETUC will show both our determination and our ability to parade as usual in a peaceful, good-humoured atmosphere.
For organisational and security reasons, we would ask all the ETUC member organisations to let us know as quickly as possible in writing if they plan to attend (form attached to be returned to Jocelyne Jados by fax: +32 2 224 04 40
or by e-mail: before 24 March 2011).
Best regards,
Bernadette Ségol
Regional secretary
