“We've taken an important first step here in having voted to work to have more women in decision-making positions – but such a vote or even such action does not guarantee equality. There is much more to do, particularly in capacity building in our unions to deliver equal opportunities in the workplaces. That is the responsibility of all the delegates and leadership of the national unions with the help of UNI MEI.



“Part of what we need to achieve is to ensure women have access to the types of work usually dominated by men. We need to tackle pay inequality. We also need to ensure we use all the means of communication open to us to raise the issues and help to change perceptions. We can help reach people and change their views”.



And the one thing Adriana hopes will change before the next UNI MEI General Assembly in Cape Town?



“Definitely more women in decision-making positions in our industry and our unions. Our unions must set the example and reflect better the society we live in with more women playing active roles”.
