Leyla, Sonia, Amina, Hayet and Leila represent the richness of diversity: intelligent, self-assured and dynamic. These women represent our sectors in commerce, banking, postal, call centers, media etc. Together, we believe in one common goal: Breaking through together!
Vérconica, Léocadie and Arlette paid tribute to the Tunisian people, while placing special attention on women’s struggles in the face of adversity. They welcomed the Tunisian people who had managed to lay the foundations of democracy at the cost of many human lives.
We were moved and impressed by the many presentations and emotional testimonies made and the determination and courage of the female members of the Tunisian trade union UGTT taking part in the Tunisian revolution.
After a presentation of videos made by the UNI Equality Department sector, workshops were held to debate among other things the following questions:
Could the revolution lead to a set- back for women’s rights?
What are the needs of women from the different sectors?
What are the ways to integrate women into trade union structures of UGTT?
Tunisian women must move away from the assumption that the resolution will be an obstacle in obtaining their rights.
The Tunisian women’s fight started long ago, yet they lack the resources.
In the past, there were very few women associations, low levels of literacy and limited means of communication.
The cultural fight of women still continues today, yet they will carry on united!
The women’s network highlighted priorities in terms of training and apprenticeship:
In the weeks to follow, training in social law, campaigns, recruitment and effective communication are scheduled to occur.
The participants are all very talented, which will allow women to self-manage the training program. The aim is to educate these women to become trainers themselves, even down at a grass-root level.
At the closure of the seminar, Véronica proposed to finish off the year by organising a march for the women’s network in December 2011 in Tunis.
They can already now make use of what they have learned in terms of communication and recruitment to make themselves more visible.
We wish them luck and success in their endeavours to fulfil the slogan of the seminar.
You are breaking through – together you can do it!
