Another breaking through organising from Turkey. Big majority of the workers from Al Jazeera Turkey has organised in Basin-Is, UNI Global Union Affiliate. The Union got its legal notification from the Ministry of Labour that it has almost 75% majority in the company to represent workers and bargain collectively.

Johannes Studinger, Head of UNI MEI and Ricardo Gutiérrez, General Secretary of European Federation of Journalists (EFJ) have sent solidarity letters to the workers and letter of call for union recognition to the Company Management.

“We fully support our brothers and sisters in Turkey to exercise their fundamental rights and would like to encourage the Management to start constructive dialog with Basin-Is” said Ricardo, and “Basin-Is is engaged in very constructive dialog and industrial relations with multinational companies in the private sector and we are looking forward to this process starting at Al Jazeera. We support our colleagues of Basin-Is in their effort to establish trade union representation and collective bargaining” said Johannes.

The European Federation of Journalists (EFJ), representing over 320,000 journalists in 40 countries, including Turkey and UNI Global Union is a global trade union federation representing around 20 million workers from over 900 trade unions worldwide.
