Over two hundred delegates observers an guests will be seated at this weekend´s Biennial Conference of Delegates of the Banking, Insurance an general Workers Union. The Conference which will be held at the Premier Quality Services Limited in Macoya. Two major statements will be delivered by the Union´s President, Vincent Cabrera and by UWI Lecturer, Dr. Jerome Teelucksingh.

On sunday, delegates will debate the Report of the General Secretary which will account for the activities of the trade union over the previous two year period. At last four important resolutions dealing with Pension Reform, Labour Legislation, Joint Trade Union Movement, and Deepening the Organising Model of Trade Unionism will also de debated; helping to chart the policy of the trade union for the next two years.

The conference will be the first event which will be presided over by the newly elected leadership of BIGWU. The theme of the Conference is “1974 – 2014: 40 Years of Trade Union Struggle & Building Consciousness among the Working Class”. The denial of workers rights to join a trace union of their choice will also be discussed at the Conference. BIGWU has received messages of solidarity and support from the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in Geneva and the Union Network International (UNI), the Global Union to which BIGWU is affiliated.
