Our Belgian affiliates have informed us that Manpower lost the contract with Sony Online Store resulting in 70 workers loosing their jobs. Some people decided to leave, some were offered other contracts but 42 people were left with nothing. belgian unions have started negotiations with Manpower trying to agree on the social plan but after the first meeting the company decided to fire 8 people and told the remaining colleagues would be dismissed without any social plan.
UNI TAW is gravely concerned about this situation and the fact that the company refuses to negotiate with the unions.
Belgian unions are on strike. Today, on July 10th, they have organised a picket at the Manpower Belgium headoffice.
UNI TAW sent a letter to the management of Manpower Group Belgium asking them to start a dialogue with the unions and to ensure equal treatment of Manpower employees in Sony.
Manpower is one of the signatories of the Memorandum of Understanding with UNI Global Union. Signing this agreement, the company committed to the “fair treatment for temporary agency workers with regard to their basic working and employment conditions based on the principle of non-discrimination”. Moreover, the European Directive on TAW 2008/104/EC states that agency workers should receive the same working conditions as permanent workers carrying out the same or similar jobs in the company to which they are assigned.
UNI TAW fully supports the demands of the Belgian unions (CSC, SETCA, LBC-NVK, CNE & CGSLB/ACLVB) and calls Manpower to engage in a constructive debate and to open a dialogue beneficial for both parties.
Manpower, all workers deserve equal treatment!
