We feel this positive step will be welcomed by our members and will help to restore customer confidence in Barclays.



Unite has over many months and throughout many meetings with Barclays, consistently argued that the changes made to incentives in 2011, whilst welcomed, had not gone far enough. Given recent events, there was the need to move away from any product based incentives and to trust that where good customer service was delivered, product sales would follow.



Whilst full details are still to emerge and we remain in discussions with Barclays, there are some clear reassurances that we can give members at this time of change:



· Barclays are committed to the same level of spending on incentives going forward in 2013 as budgeted for 2012.



· The target level and average incentive to be paid across each role and grade will remain similar year on year.



· The same service measures will continue to apply however, payment of incentives will be much more team and area based. This will even out the level of payments to individuals across any role or grade.



· Barclays will be moving to a position where all those receiving incentives will be paid quarterly from the second half of 2013.



· Exclusion from incentives will still continue to apply, linked to service and business quality. However, the application of this to the bottom 20% on productivity grounds will be removed.



This is a significant change of culture for Barclays and one that we think will be welcomed by customers and consumer groups alike. Having pushed for change, Unite supports this initiative. We know our members strive to give great service to customers - this will naturally lead to quality sales, which is good news for both Barclays and for our members.
