Management of the 208 stores had been outsourced to four retail management groups. The purchase, which is expected to cost VHA $80 million, follows the merger of two telecom giants’ Australian operations earlier this month. Vodafone and Hutchinson (branded as “3”) merged their Australian ventures to form VHA, which now commands 27% market share and receives $4 billion revenue from 6 million customers.



If all 1400 retail employees are hired by VHA, the company’s workforce will increase by nearly 38%, from 3700 to 5100 employees. Officials have stated that these workers will be offered contracts with the same terms of employment they currently receive. However, this buy-back comes on the heels of an announcement that management operations will be re-structured and job losses are imminent as head office staff is required to re-apply for their current jobs.
