UNI affiliate the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) are holding a 24 hour strike and a march outside of the Houses of Parliament to protest at government cuts.



UNI Global Union General Secretary Philip Jennings said, “We stand full square with PCS members who are marching to protest at government cuts which are destroying UK society. This is not theoretical, its a reality and hitting the poorest hardest. The Financial Times reports that some families in the UK are going without food, citing a child in Liverpool chewing on wallpaper at night to keep the hunger pains at bay. The government’s cynical austerity policies have resulted in a growing equality gap swallowing up millions of unemployed and working poor. PCS members are fighting to defend their pay, pensions and working conditions but also the welfare state and public services which everyone in the country relies on. We must all fight to close the equality gap and create a more inclusive rather divisive society."
