The Argentine banking union La Bancaria, together with Uruguayan banking union AEBU and the BBVA Workers’ Union in Paraguay, distributed leaflets detailing BBVA’s relationship with Spanish multinational security firm Prosegur. Together, bank workers and security workers are demanding freedom of association and collective bargaining rights for security guards at Prosegur after the dismissal of 327 Paraguayan Prosegur security workers, many of whom provided security services for BBVA. 

The distribution of these flyers by unions from 3 separate countries is testament to a growing international and cross-sectoral solidarity with the plight of Prosegur workers in Latin America.

The action took place outside BBVA’s Paraguay headquarters in Asuncion, and in a video recording, a BBVA manager can be seen asking workers to move on. Eventually, Paraguayan police came to the bank branch to remove the leafleting trade unionists, but they remained unmoved and stayed until the leafleting was completed. The activists were also seen leafleting a Prosegur CIT vehicle.
