AINLIEF's Golden Jubilee Conference
The Golden Jubilee Conference of All India National Life Insurance Employees federation (INTUC) was held on 29th and 30th April 2013 at New Delhi. The glittery ceremony was attended by a large number of delegates from all over the country including Shri. Kodikunnil Suresh, Minister of State for Labour & Employment for India, and Shri Ninong Ering, Minister of State for Minority affairs, Government of India.
V Narasimhan, was re-elected as General Secretary of AINLIEF (INTUC). He presented a report to the conference which exhaustively covers the activities, and AINLEIG’s history for the past 50 years, highlighting the constructive role played by the Federation in achieving various benefits for the employees. Narasimhan also stressed the need to empower women and youth.
On what the Government of India has in stall for the working class, Kodikkunnil Suresh explained the various steps taken by the Government of India and stressed on the need for harmonious co-existence of labour & capital.
Professor Savita Singh, Head of the Dept., Women & Gender Studies from IGNOU spoke at length about violence against women and the role of the trade union. She also stated that the trade union movement will be only be stronger and successful with the active participation of women, and the responsibility to include them is on all of us.
Giving the conference a global perspective, Jayasri Priyalal, UNI APRO Director for Finance, Professionals & Managerial services explained the challenges faced by the Financial Sector and the responses given by trade unions. He explained that the trade unions have a vital role to play to secure a better tomorrow for Indians. Priyalal said that the future of the trade unions are in the hands of the people who are not in the trade unions today and that unions have to actively engage the younger generation.
Sri Pankaj Sharma, Secretary All India Congress Committee spoke about the important role of labour in today’s situation. Eminent personalities like Sri Naresh Trehan, (Padmasri & Padmabhushan awardee) Cardiologist and head of Medanta, Sri Romesh Gautam, Senior Advocate Supreme Court and Ms. Anjum Chopra (Cricketer & Arjuna Awardee) were felicitated for their contribution to the nation and the people.
The important issue of regularization/appointment of around 5000 temporary workmen in the permanent services of the Corporation was discussed and the future plan of organizing the Contract and ad hoc employees was discussed and decided.
