Over 25 participants took part in the workshop, which objectives were to get an overview of the situation in the Africa region in terms of the liberalisation and privatisation of postal services ; share experiences between participants, as well as to develop a strategic plan on how unions can fight against the detrimental impact of postal liberalisation and privatisation.

In the African continent, liberalisation and privatisation of postal services is occurring in every country at different pace. Job losses and reduction of postal services in remote areas are direct consequences of this process.

In order to prevent the bad impacts of the liberalisation and privatisation of postal services, participants drafted an action plan. The plan evolves around 4 main strategies: networking, lobbying, building strong unions and organising; and distinguishes what can be done on a local and national level by each union and what can be done on a more regional and global level by UNI Post & Logistics Global Union
