Affiliates pay tribute to Nelson Mandela on anniversary of his passing
On the first anniversary of Nelson Mandela’s death, UNI Global Union General Secretary, Philip Jennings and Deputy General Secretary Christy Hoffman were accompanied by UNI affiliates to lay a wreath at Mandela Gateway in Cape Town.
General Secretary Philip Jennings said “One year on, we still grieve for the loss of Madiba, but we are inspired by the examples he set throughout his life. Nelson Mandela inspired with sacrifice, compassion, courage and solidarity.”
“Today we are here at Mandela Gateway to honour his memory. His struggle will never cease to inspire our fight for a world of peace, dignity and justice.
Affiliates then boarded the Susan Kruger boat to Robben Island in order to pay their respects where Mandela was incarcerated for 18 years.
