UNI Property Services affiliate in Turkey, Güvenlik-is, has just passed the 25,000 member mark. In only December last year, when the membership stood at 10,000, the General Secretary Bolat Ankarali predicted that his team of hard working organisers and their nation-wide network of shop stewards and activists would achieve 25,000 members by the end of 2015. We did not imagine that it would happen so soon.

The new Turkish union for Security workers Guvenlik-Is has now grown to this level from just 800 members in 2013. The team at Güvenlik-is are inspired by UNI`s `Breaking Through`strategy and the urgent need for a union for these workers. The union continues to win pay rises and important changes in working conditions and safety for their members. These agreements are setting a new industry standard for security workers in Turkey.

Mr Ankarali thanked UNI Global Union and other European affiliates for their financial and strategic support. 'We are proud of what we have achieved for security workers and the union movement. Without UNI this phenomenal growth in membership would not have been possible', he said.

Güvenlik-is will be holding their second union congress in Ankara at the end of this month. UNI Property Services and the entire UNI family wish Bolat and Güvenlik-is every success for the congress.
