Broadcasting unions keep growing in Malaysia. Two new unions are set-up to represent executive workers at Primework Studios and TV3. With the new union at TV3 all workers including executive workers can now be represented by a union. Until recently only non-excutive workers could join a union. The second new union has been established at Primework Studios, another company of the Media Prima group. Media Prima and UNI Global Union signed a global framework agreement in 2010, which promotes trade union rights and industrial relations within the group.



Members of the Executive Committees of he the two new unions met today with UNI General Secretary Philip Jennings and Mohammad Shafie, President of the UNI Malaysian Liaison Council (UNI MLC) to handover the certificates of registration during the UNI Global Union visit to NUBE Office in Kuala Lumpur.



Following the setting-up of a union at ASTRO TV this new push for union organising comes again from the initiative and support of UNI affiliate, the TV3 Malaysia Employee Union. UNI General Secretary Philip Jennings commended the colleagues for their commitment and persistence to enlarge the union coverage in the Malaysian broadcasting sector and thanked the Presidents of TV3 Malaysia Employee Union, Mohammad Khairuzzaman and of the UNI MLC, Mohammad Shafie for their ongoing organising efforts and support to colleagues in the sector.



After the formal inauguration of the unions, the next objective is to achieve recognition and negotiations with Management.
