Several Members of the European Parliament are in support of the question aimed at the European Commission about the liberalisation of the postal market. Supported by Trade Unions, they blame DG Internal Market for not meeting the requirements promised in their reports and policy and are therefore demanding a moratorium on the deadline of the liberalisation until the European Commission fulfills its duties. The European Commission has to finally realize that: The EU is not yet ready for the liberalisation of the postal sector!



The preconditions for the liberalisation set down in the Directive 2008/6/EC(1)are to ensure good working conditions, to research the social consequences and to investigate how to finance and ensure the universal services. These requirements were fulfilled neither by the Member States nor by the European Commission. Members of the European Parliament now realize their democratic responsibility, question the work of the European Commission and concluded that the postponement of the deadline of the postal liberalisation would be necessary to guarantee quality jobs and quality service.
