Cleaners at Skejby Hospital in Denmark have found management resistant to reaching a reasonable contract settlement. The cleaners’ demands are basic: enough time to properly clean the hospital, reasonable terms and conditions of employment, dignity and respect on the job.



Increasingly, Cleaners are asked to clean more and more space with the same level of staffing. The inability of employers to recognize the realities of limitation is never as acute as it is in hospital cleaning. Hospitals must be cleaned properly for patients to be safe. This is an issue of respect and dignity for cleaners and personal safety for the community.



Dialogue has been a solid underpinning of the labor-management relationship in Denmark for decades but it seems to have broken down in these negotiations. UNI Property Services calls on Skejby Hospital to return to the bargaining table on June 11 and to engage in constructive dialogue to resolve this important contract dispute.
