25000 behind new agreement with Carrefour, Italy

The Fisascat- Cisl, Filcams-Cgil and Uiltucs-Uil trade unions have signed in Rome the new company level contract (contratto integrativo aziendale) with Carrefour, one of the biggest companies in the Italian distribution sector, counting around twenty-five thousand employees.
The agreement reestablishes the union relations which were interrupted in the past, that caused many one sided decisions on behalf of the company during the year 2010, without any sort of involvement of the union.
The company level contract reestablishes some important aspects, all of which improve the quality in the working place, such as: payed pauses during working hours, injuries and sicknesses 100% payed, the right to information and the union relations system.
However, the new agreement doesn't solve all the issues that contributed to the increasing worsening labour relations, e.g.:
the mechanism which has been identified about working on Sundays, which does not solve the difficulties of many workers, and the diversified payment of the fixed bonus, a mechanism which represents a differentiation between workers (problem suggested solved by staggering the accrual for those that had it blocked following the cancellation of the company level contract. This system will be substituted by a double variable salary for young new workers, and could be consolidated to the restoration of company profits to the level of the previous company level contract).
Another sensitive issue is represented by the model of discussion regarding work organization, which provides for a time limit of discussion itself when talking about specific issues.
Consultations with male and female workers, which took place mainly at a joint level, have had a positive result, although the path hasn't been without difficulties and a great organization effort was necessary.
This agreement certainly contains some critical points but is a stepping stone for further improvements in working conditions at Carrefour Italy.
