ICAN received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2017 but another peace organisation that UNI has a strong bond with, the International Peace Bureau won the Nobel Peace Prize back in 1910. The IPB formed in 1891 is one of the world’s oldest peace organisations. It too was an important driver to bring about the UN Treaty on the Prohibition on Nuclear Weapons.

IPB President Reiner Braun addressing the UNI Congress said, “Peace is in danger and the world is in disorder. We need a deep change – from armament, to disarmament. We must overcome the politics of confrontation and militarisation!”

The UNI family is united for peace and believes that unions are an essential pillar of the peace movement.
