In an interview with CNBC Africa, UNI Global Union General Secretary Philip Jennings demanded that Davos find a cure for the world’s wealth distribution disease.

“The theme of Davos this year is a fractured world,” said Jennings. “We see fractures in employment, income and the basic human right to organise, to negotiate and to collectively bargain. To heal this fractured world, requires that human rights must be respected.”

“Strong unions are good for business – you cannot create a shared future without working with the trade union movement. By recognising that unions and business must work together, we can start to heal our fractured world and have a better distribution of income. We cannot continue with business as usual, where it’s winner takes all.”

Jennings also had a defiant message for Donald Trump, who will be the first US President to attend the summit since Bill Clinton.

“Donald Trump is Exhibit A of a fractured world. Everything he says and does is about sowing division. The world’s largest economy saying America First and to hell with the rest is very worrying. We live in an interdependent fragile world, where dialogue and the search for the common good is so important.”
