UNI affiliates representing various security printing workers from Asia and Pacific gathered in a UNI Apro Security Printing Unions Forum which took place in Mumbai, India, on 10-11 November 2016.

Lorraine Cassin, President of UNI Apro Graphical and Packaging, who is the National Print Divisional Secretary of AMWU Australia, highlighted the need of organising and building workers power.  Milind Nadkarni, President of UNI ILC and Sis. Louisa Bull of UNITE UK focused in developing strategies to overcome the challenges of technology led changes in the sector and Bro. Tadashi Abe- General Secretary of All Printing Bureau Labour Union- Japan highlighted the activities of the union and industrial relation system in Japan.

All 32 participants representing 11 unions from 7 countries participated and discussed the situation of security printing industry and workers in Asia and Pacific region. The forum discussed focusing, confronting the challenges facing the Security Printing Workers and trade union policy response and strategy to organise and represent security printing workers. The forum agreed to form a network of Security Printing union in the region to enable unions to apply best practices from other unions. The network will help identify strategies to build and strengthen the network in the Asian and Pacific region, says Rajendra Acharya, Director for Graphical and Packaging Activities in UNI Apro.
