More than 100 women met in Buenos Aires, Argentina at La Bancaria, on the 29th and 30th of March to participate at the UNI World Women's Committee Meeting. Amongst the participants were 25 women, members to the UNI World Women's Committee from all UNI regions; and participants to the UNI Mentoring Program in the Americas, who had been invited to participate as observers.
The meeting, which was chaired by the President of the UNI World Women's Committee, Denise McGuire, included the discussion of issues like the work of the regions towards women empowerement; the ongoing UNI Equal Opportunities campaigns; and the work that has been carried out as part of the strategic priorities set out by the UNI EOD and which include, amongst other things, the launch of a new UNI campaign on Women's Health, which was launched on the 8th of March for International Woman's Day.
During the meeting new topics were addressed, like the survey that will be carried out as part of the project on domestic violence from DV@ workNet and of which UNI is part of; the discussion and amendments to the procedure for the implementation of the 40% rule, which will be presented by Denise McGuire during the next UNI Management Board Meeting; digitalisation in the new world of work and the impact on women; and the creation and strengthening of new women networks.
Towards the end of the meeting, Verónica Fernández Méndez and Denise McGuire presented a report on the preparations that are currently taking place for the next World Women's Conference that will take place in Liverpool in 2018.
During the meeting the participants also had the opportunity to show their solidarity and express their support to those workers in Bancamía, Colombia, who have been subject to anti-union attacks; and to be part of the demonstrations organized by La Bancaria in front of the Banco Central in Buenos Aires as a protest for the dismissals that have been taking place in the last months.
The date and place for the next meeting of the UNI World Women's Committee is to be decided.
