UNI Post & Logistics assembled 25 participants from 11 coutnries this week in Bangkok to address the serious need for postal workers to increase their organising activities in the Asia and Pacific region. The organising forum, a first of its kind for the sector, aimed to develop organising skills among UNI's Apro affiliates. The participating unions noted that with the ongoing decline in letter mail volumes, it is important for their unions to grow their union and build industrial strength by increasing density in the post and by organising in the rapidly growing parcel, express and logistics sector. 

The forum, which was made possible by the support of UNI Score and Union to Union, focused on campaign planning, organising skills and the importance of organising in the face of a changing sector. Participants shared best practices including UNI MLC's organising work in DHL in Malaysia and from E-Tu New Zealand's campaigns across the postal and logistics sector. The unions also focused on the challenge of organising in growing multinationals in the region, like the Toll Group, which was recently acquired by Japan Post. 

In addition to the training work, APRO P&L affiliates welcomed Sis. Kanako Osaki at her first meeting as the new Director of Post and Logistics for UNI Apro. Osaki replaces Bro. Eichi Ito, who is retiring after a long career in the international trade union movement, including the last 16 years at the former PTTI and UNI Global Union.
