Turkish labour union Tez-Koop-Is ends a 11 days strike in Middle East Technical University (METU) after an agreement is reached.

Union of Commerce, Education, Office and Fine Arts Workers, Tez-Koop-Is, has called for the strike on December 4, 2015, at one of the leading universities of Turkey, METU.

All the 277 members of the Union went on strike, after talks on wage issues with employer’s union Kamu-Is on behalf of METU Administration have broken down. The labour strike caused some public services including student cafeteria, campus transportation and some technical services, shut down.

During the strike, other labour unions, non-governmental organizations, some political parties and the students of the University showed their solidarity and urged METU Administration to accept demands of workers for fair wages. 

The union has been seeking a wage improvement and in the agreement the demands of the strikers were taken into consideration.
