Making Change at Walmart - the national campaign to change Walmart in the United States - used this week’s Democratic presidential debate to launch a new ad campaign seeking better rights for workers’ at the world’s largest retailer.

In a direct effort to reach all 2016 presidential candidates, the hard-hitting campaign features the difficult and troubling experiences of a diverse group of current and former Walmart workers. From poor wages and benefits, to decreasing hours and difficult scheduling, the campaign highlights the emotional impact that many workers, and their families face at Walmart and across the retail industry.

Making Change at Walmart, working closely with UNI Global Union’s American affiliate the UFCW, bought two 30-second advertisements during CNN’s broadcast of the debate this week. The democratic nominees including frontrunners Hilary Clinton and Bernie Sanders will be hoping to convince union members that they are right for the job.

The UFCW and UNI Global Union have long-campaigned for an improvement in conditions at Walmart. Unions were successful in February this year in securing a wage increase that will see the minimum wage at Walmart rise to $10 in 2016 but will continue to campaign for a $15 base hourly salary.
