Speaking at the Universal Postal Union's World Strategy Conferece in Geneva, UNI Global Union General Secretary Philip Jennings challenged the UPU and the world's postal operators to move more quickly to ensure that posts are at the center of achieving the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. By their universal reach and unrivaled trust among the public, postal workers and postal operators are ideally positioned to grow economies, lead to financial and social inclusion and reduce poverty, Jennings said. 

"Our unions and their members are the beating heart of the world's postal systems. UNI is committed to helping grow the posts of tomorrow so that posts can win on e-commerce, include millions in society and continue to build a sustainable future for years ahead."

The UPU's World Strategy Conference met in Geneva this week, as the UPU grapples with a rapidly changing postal system ahead of its next Congress in 2016 in Istanbul. The Conference themes of "innovation, integration and inclusion" led delegates to discuss how the posts can evolve and work together to be more relevant in the e-commerce boom and lead to sustainable economic growth around the globe. More than 120 governments, postal operators and others from the sector descended on Geneva to set the UPU's priorities for the years ahead.
