2014 has already seen a win for Austrian UNICARE affiliate GPA as employer and union representatives have agreed on increased wages, basic salaries and allowances for 95,000 workers in the private health and social services areas. Wages have now increased by 2.5%. Parental Leave improvements have been won, and recognition of previous experience, skill and training has also been achieved.

"In a very constructive negotiating climate, a conclusion could be reached for the employees, which respects both the need for a continuous wage and salaries of workers and the tight financial situation of public budgets into account," explains Klaus Zenz, Federal Committee Chairman of the GPA-djp and chief negotiator on workers inside.

Prior to the negotiations, union stewards demonstrated in Vienna with more than 600 participants, great unity, and a great show of strength which helped their negotiating team. This year's talks could be completed in just two rounds of negotiations with a satisfactory result for both sides.
