On 7 May 2014, the UNI Europa Executive Committee adopted a statement on the situation in Ukraine.

The same day, the ITUC issued a Press Release calling political leaders to act to stop civil war in Ukraine.

With the imminent risk that violence in Ukraine escalates into a fully-fledged civil war, the ITUC is called political leaders from Ukraine, Russia and the broader international community to commit unequivocally to a non-violent, negotiated settlement which respects democracy, human rights and the fundamental principles of international law. The ITUC Press Release recalls the ITUC - ETUC - PERC call from 19 February 2014 for “rational solutions based on developing a consensus based on the national interest and the real needs of the working people and citizens of Ukraine” ensuring respect for the lives and rights of the Ukrainian people and a future based on their free choice. The Press Release calls also that "All governments must urgently commit themselves to negotiations, repudiate the incitement to violence by radical extremists, and cooperate to ensure full respect for democracy and the rule of law.  Continued failure to take these essential steps would leave the people of Ukraine facing the appalling consequences of all-out war."

UNI Europa follows with great concern the developments in Ukraine. We deplore the significant losses of lives through violence.

UNI Europa urgently calls upon all conflict parties:

1. To end the bloodshed
2. To resolve the conflicts peacefully through dialogue
3. To respect human rights and international law, including the principle of territorial integrity
4. The international community, in particular the countries involved in the Geneva talks, to facilitate an immediate return to peace and stability in Ukraine.
