In honor of May Day, also known as International Workers' Day, the Retail Action Project - a project of the RWDSU - has released an animated video that explains current scheduling issues in the retail industry.

 Retail Reality: Shifty Business addresses one of the biggest obstacles retail workers today face: scheduling. Workers are unable to get sufficient hours, and are forced to endure "on call" scheduling, where they must wait by the phone to see if they'll be called upon to work. They can't take other jobs, or do anything else that would interfere with their unstable, unpredictable work hours.

The video is the campaign’s latest effort to educate retail workers and policy makers about the need for #JustHours: fair, stable and predictable schedules for millions of underemployed low wage workers in one of America’s biggest job creating industries. The animation was projected on May 1st in New York City’s SoHo retail district during the May Day march down Broadway, and it will premiere at the Workers Unite Film Festival on May 12th.
