UNI MEI and its affiliates stand in solidarity with UK cinema workers on strike 1st May at the Ritzy Cinema in London, UK

Members of the UK media &entertainment union, BECTU are currently in dispute with their employer Picturehouses/Cineworld over payment of the London Living Wage at the Ritzy cinema, in Brixton, South London. This currently stands at £8.80 an hour. The London Living Wage s widely observed by employers both in the public and private sectors. Staff at the Ritzy currently earn £7.24 an hour.

The workers at the Ritzy have taken strike action on 11 April, 18 & 19 April and are on strike again 1st May.

Media and entertainment unions from around the world have expressed their solidarity with striking workers and support their demand for more dignity at the workplace. In a message to workers at the Ritzy, UNI General Secretary Philip Jennings said: "The London Living Wage is widely observed by employers both in the public and private sectors. Picturehouses/Cineworld should do the right thing and agree to your demand to pay the London Living Wage."
