The social partners in the European sport sector finalized an agreement on the text of a set of Guidelines on Working Time for the European Sport sector today in Brussels. 

UNI Sport PRO's. Walter Palmer, chaired the working session and plenary meeting that finalized the language in the draft agreement. 

"We have built a solid working relationship with our social partners, E.A.S.E. (European Association of Sport Employers) and I want to compliment my colleague, Marcel Martin (President of E.A.S.E.) for his leadership and vision in getting this important document through this process. Our joint success bodes well for the extension of our ESSDC test phase and these guidelines further demonstrate the importance of the European Social Dialogue process to the development of sport in Europe."

Both parties agreed that international conventions (ILO), European (i.e. directives) and national labour legislation standards on working time apply in general to the sport and active leisure sector, as to any other. 

Further the text also referred to the following issuesfor European level discussions within the scope of the European social dialogue:

• Flexibility during events, tournaments and competitions
• Work on weekends and public holidays
• Variable weekly working times due to weather, scheduling of competitions (calendar), tourist seasons or school holidays
• Compatibility of working time with health and safety
