Following in the footsteps of the baseball and football players in Japan, a group of basketball players in the NBL (Nippon Basketball League) has formed a players association with the purpose of improving the conditions under which the players compete. JPBA President, Yusuke Okada, highlighted a drastic increase in the number of games played each season as a major consideration in the formation of the union. The NBL (league) also unilaterally imposed a salary cap and is now seeking to decrease the amount each team can pay its players for the 2014-2015 season. UNI Sport PRO supports the formation of new unions and welcomes the JBPA as part of the Global Alliance - Basketball which brings together the top basketball player associations from around the world including from the NBA, Australia, France, Spain, Israel, Italy, Argentina and Germany.
