JPGU Kanto Region has long granted scholarships to excellent students whose parents are members of UNI Postal affiliates in Sri Lanka (UPTO and NPTWU) to give them opportunities to continue higher education. Some 12 students are selected through examination and interview every two years. UNI Sri Lanka Liaison Council (UNI SLAC) Youth and Women Committee members are actively involved in the process from the selection to the Scholarship presenting ceremony. They are like young students’ brothers and sisters who can share their working experience in trade unions, the importance of solidarity, international cooperation and exchanges provided through UNI’s union network and gender equality. Sister Lankika P. Ariyasinghe, Secretary of UNI SLAC Women who attended the recent UNI Apro Executive Committee expressed the appreciation to Brother Omata, President of JPGU on behalf of UNI SLAC. She informed him that the selection of new batch will start in May and the Ceremony will be held in Colombo in September. She invited JPGU Kanto to send a delegation to witness the Ceremony and encourage newly-selected students. Brother Omata passed a donation to Sister Lankika and hoped it will be used for youth and women activities in Sri Lanka.
