Watchdog Consumer Futures published a research piece on March 18 that shows that the Post Office Ltd’s modernisation programme is failing to give real benefits to customers.

CWU national officer Andy Furey said: “We welcome the report from Consumer Futures which shows that despite the £2 billion investment programme to modernise the Post Office, the company is failing to deliver tangible benefits for customers. This is disappointing and a missed opportunity for the company to bring in new customers. After this level of investment it begs the question what was the point in the first place?

If the Post Office is serious about modernising, improving its services and ensuring the current network remains, then their priority must focus more on attracting quality sub-postmasters, who are situated in prime locations around the country. These sub-postmasters need to be paid a decent rate to run the service and ensure their staff are well-trained and provide first-class customer service.”
