Last week, on March 14,  nearly all Holland Casino employees in Utrecht and Rotterdam were on strike. This was the first strike since 1976. Around two hundred people did not work for 9 hours so all table games were shut down only with some slot machines operating.

Employees demand a better social plan and restructurisation without further job losses. In the past few years, Holland Casino (a state owned company) cut many jobs - only last year 150 employees had to leave. 

Holland Casino has fourteen establishments in the country totalling three thousand employees. The company is experiencing hard times as the turnover dropped by 30 percent. In October of 2013, the banks put the gaming operator under the increased supervision because of its 100 million euro debt.
