A meeting between UGTL (General Union of Libyan Workers / or Union Générale des Travailleurs Libyens) and UNI MENA representatives took place on Thursday February 27  2014 at the UNI MENA offices in Tunis.

The Banking (28000 members), Post and Telecom (13000) as well as Graphical (6000) sectors are well represented in UGTL, as well as some subcontracted aiport workers. There are also women and youth comittees. From the talks given by UGTL, it seems that the unions are entering a phase with more stability and that restructuring is going on in the sectors.

UGTL, which was banned under the Khadafi regime, announced during its previous visit to Tunis, that it is in talks with the Ministry of Labour to create a new labour law.

There will be a third meeting with the Tunisian UGTT union in mid March which will deepen the links inside the region as well as with UNI. The UGTL has also confirmed they have been setting up relationships with FES, ACTRAV, CSI and ILO.
