UNI Global Union General Secretary Philip Jennings reacted today to news of a global stock slide amid concerns over emerging markets.

“A whirlwind has hit the emerging markets. It’s the Year of the Horse in the Chinese calendar and financial bucking bronco is underway,” Jennings said.

“The financial rodeo opens with a stampede from the emerging markets with cowboy traders in the saddle, but where’s the regulatory sheriff?

“Emerging markets are facing financial slaughter that will bleed growth, investment, jobs and public services. It will also sap the confidence of the people.

“The Year of the Horse has already thrown emerging markets and global institutions. It’s time to get back in the saddle and stop the stampede.”
