UNI affiliates and allies adopt plan to censor Prosegur

Unions throughout South America met in Bogota, Colombia on October 17-18 to develop a coordinated strategy to address the ongoing anti-union tactics of global security firms like Prosegur and Brinks.  50 union activists demonstrated outside Brinks Colombia yesterday to show their solidarity with union leaders who have been fired for fighting to improve standards for workers in this industry.
 
Top union leaders from 11 countries and over 20 unions adopted a joint strategy to counter the ongoing harassment and discrimination against union activists in Colombia, Paraguay, Peru and Brazil.  UNI Global Union has documented evidence of the ongoing violations by Prosegur's country managers in S. America regarding freedom of association and the right to collectively bargain.
 
Faced with clear evidence of these violations, Prosegur's head office in Spain has failed to take responsibility for these country managers' illegal actions, claiming that the company has as decentralized labor relations policy.  This is simply not an acceptable response.

"Other major security firms like G4S and Securitas have take real steps to be responsible security contractors.  Prosegur needs to "walk the talk" on corporate social responsibility and begin following country laws and the international human rights standards that are now the norm among the largest private security firms in the world," said Alice Dale, Head of Department for UNI Property Services in Nyon, Switzerland.
