After a week of Lunar New Year holiday everyone returned to the workplace on Monday morning for work. The streets of Yoido was relatively quiet before a joint rally began with union dancing performance by Koscom union members.
Allianz Korea union on the 20th day of strike and Koscom non-regular workers union on the 153 days of strike as of February 11,. assembled together in front of Allianz Korea head office in Yoido to hold a joint rally with supports of KFCLU, its peak union federation. Two union members returned the holidays to the companies and continued strike action during the holiday. No holiday for strike action…. The weather reached minus 7 degrees with a cold wind.
Bro. Jong Young-Gun, president of KFCLU started his speech by criticizing the government’s irresponsible manner in the process of extinguish Namdaemoon Gate fire on Sunday night. “ All parts of Namdaemoon gate, National Treasure Number one, collapsed by the fire, but there was no full-time security guards…This is unbelievable. But Koscom union members on strike in the street are always surrounded by policemen. This is an irony that the government would never take care of national treasures with a proper way but overreact to union members on the industrial action.” He also thanked for UNI letter to Allianz Korea management and called for an international solidarity with German unions.
Bro. Je Jong-Kyu, president of Allianz Korea union exploded his anger by saying that “Over 64% of Allianz employees are on strike, but no one from management visited us for dialogue in the strike place… This is an example how Allianz management takes an irresponsible position toward the union.”
About 300 advisors of Allianz sales forces, mostly women workers, participated in the rally and issued a statement by 1,000 signatories to call for an immediate normalization of business and have a dialogue between the management and the union. They have a plan to increase the signatory of statement to 6,000 advisors which is all members of sales forces in Allianz Korea.
Allilanz union and Koscom union also burned out the coffins which were installed in the strike place to symbolize the elimination of non-regular workers. They marched to Financial Supervisory Commission and shouted to take a proper supervision of financial companies. All day long Yoido street was busy and noisy by union actions
And songs.
