G4S has moved into the new markets of Sudan, Afghanistan, Algeria and Rwanda with its acquisition of Armor Group and RONCO Consulting Corporation in the last few weeks.



Ronco is an American company specialising in mine clearing and other explosive disposal, employing over 1,200 people worldwide. Armor Group is a private security agency with 8,500 employees in 27 countries. Both companies operate primarily in the conflict zones of Iraq, Afghanistan and Sudan.



Armor Group lost significant value during 2007, following accusations that rival security company Blackwater had killed Iraqi civilians, which brought the entire industry into question. The company also lost value as the political situation improved in Iraq during 2007 – the implication being that less conflict would means less business for Armor.



War on Want has recently released a report, Getting Away With Murder, which calls for greater regulation of the private security industry and in particular, of companies such as Armor.
